The Real Reason Rumsfeld Is Out?
It seemed a little odd that all of a sudden, after years of complaints about Donald Rumsfeld, President Bush decided it was time for Rummy to go–right after the election. All the Republican pundits said it would have helped the GOP if Bush had sent Rummy packing before November 7. So why the change of heart? Some thought maybe Bush was gaining some humiilty after the thumping at the polls. Maybe he was finally going to listen to those on the other side of the aisle.
Maybe not so much. The New York Times reports that in a memo to the White House dated November 6, one day before the election, Rumsfeld called for a “major adjustment” in U.S. tactics in Iraq. Two days later, he was out of a job.
